School Spending, Teacher Satisfaction Down, Says New Survey of Teachers

More than three out of four teachers (76%) reported that their school’s budget decreased over the past year, and 34% indicated that educational technology and learning materials have not been kept up to date to meet student needs at their schools, according to the 2012 MetLife Survey of the American Teacher. Commissioned by MetLife and conducted by Harris Interactive, the survey also found that teacher job satisfaction stands at the lowest point in more than 20 years, with only 44% of teachers describing themselves as “very satisfied” in their jobs.
